Scott and I decided to jump into adult land and actually research buying a real bed. Not a box spring that we’ve had since college, but a legitimate big girl bed, complete with real wood slats and espresso wood legs. Swoon! I’m super excited about this new venture, but of course, I’m having a bit of a decision dilemma. If I was choosing this bed for someone else it would take .5 seconds. But choosing something for myself? Pour yourself some wine because it’s gonna be a long one.
We have narrowed it down to some fabulous contenders (including some favs from Room and Board), but our top cheese at the moment is the Tate Bed from Crate and Barrel. Yum. We tested it out in person at the store today, but brought home a couple of fabric swatches before sealing the deal. Enter my indecisiveness.
The bed on the left is a great, neutral suede color that would be a great contrast to our new white curtains and soothing blue walls. Plus, it’s in stock and would ship within 1 week. Buuuut I’m not entirely sold on how well it coordinates with our existing chocolate bedding. If you’ve forgotten what our lovely bedding looks like, check it out below.
The bed on the right is a great ivory color that looks great with the paisley bedding, but it would take 8 weeks to deliver and might show a bit more dirt than the darker color.
So what’s a girl to do? Any thoughts on this super important issue that I’m sure you’re all losing sleep over? Should we stick with our best friend beige, or take a risk on a lovely ivory? Oooo I need your help!

Beige.
Ivory. It will be easier to coordinate future bed linens with.
I would go with your first instinct and go with the ivory. I would HIGHLY recommend spraying it good with a can of Scotch Guard. I spray it on my couches (and purses and car seats and picnic blankets etc) and it works awesome.
They’re both lovely (I know, huge help right?), but just remember: you can always change out bed linens through the years (I get bored with the same duvet, etc. after a couple of years), and that’s a much cheaper investment than buying a new bed! :)
My boyfriend and I bought the Tate in the ‘suede’ color a few months ago and we couldn’t be happier with it. We decided on the color because it won’t show nearly as much dirt, and we want this bed to last a long time. We also have chocolate colored bedding, and it looks great. I agree that it would contrast nicely with the curtains, but either way I think it will be gorgeous in your room.
Go with the darker color. It’s easier to change your bed clothes than the bed. Plus, if you’re buying the bed as an investment, the darker color will show less stains in the long run…
My vote is to get the ivory since you really really love it. The wait will be worth it. Plus it would coordinate oh so loverly w/ your drapes and bedding.
I *heart* this room of yours!
thanks everyone for your feedback! we took the plunge today and ordered the ivory bed, with the fabric protection plan. the lighter color was just too good to pass up! i’ll post pictures once this beauty is delieverd to our abode!
Please post photos when you get it in! Your room is adorable already :) I can’t wait to see!
