Yes, I know my banner is screwy and yes, it’s driving me bananas. Blargh. I’ll figure it out at some point.
In the mean time, allow me to share another attempt at some fun photography! Some of our good buddies in Charlotte approached me to take their Christmas card photos with their oh-so-adorable dog, Dorothy. It was an absolutely frigid morning, so we just did a quickie shoot around their townhouse.
First, meet Dorothy the Doodle. She might be the sweetest little labradoodle I’ve ever met. Look how cute she is? We headed to a field near their house to get a few Christmas card shots. The sun was super bright at 10 am so I had quite the challenge trying to get a good exposure. Note to self: work on that.
After a few minutes of shivering and jingling dog treats for the pup, we walked over to an old fire station near their place for a couple more pics.
Don’t you love how people say they aren’t photogenic and they end up looking like this?
Yes, I made them “shoe pose”. I’m not quite sure what that is, but they did a good job! I also made them one of my cheeserific CDs with their images on the front and back – because I’m just that cool.
Hopefully they can find a pic in the bunch for their 2009 Christmas cards. Thoughts? Comments? Let em out!

I’ve found taking pictures of black dogs to be the most challenging in getting the exposure just right. The black fur just seems to eat up the light, and when I’ve manually adjusted for the black, then everything else gets over exposed. I guess it’s just practice, practice, practice!
If you’re ever in Raleigh and want to take photos of an adorable long haired mini dachshund just let me know! I love the shoe pose photo.
The second picture is my fav, and I absolutely LOVE the shoe picture. You did a great job. I can’t thank you enough!
P.S. My grandmother will love the ones of the dog!
@Amy: yes and yes! the black fur was definitely a challenge. if you have any helpful hints, please share! :)
@elizabeth k: sounds like a cutie! you might have yourself a deal there. :)
@evelyn: i’m glad you guys like them! phew!
The only thing I’ve found to be helpful is making sure there is lots of natural light around thats not coming from directly overhead. I’ve just posted a pic on my blog of our black chihuahua, Arriba. The sunlight was coming in at an angle, so it was enough to illuminate her whole face (which often gets lost in regular pics), but it also gave a kind of crazy illuminated effect from behind. I’d love to know what you think! Heres’ the link…

Love these. We need to schedule a family photo shoot on the 26th. Sending “after Christmas” cards this year!
