The List

I couldn’t resist re-posting this “list” after I read it on Whisker Graphic’s blog. I’m not quite sure what the list is a compilation of, but I definitely relate to every single item. Enjoy a little nonsense on this Wednesday!

1. I think part of a best friend’s job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you’re wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn’t want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on #5. I’m pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don’t want to have to restart my collection…again.

13. I’m always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. “Do not machine wash or tumble dry” means I will never wash this – ever.

15. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Damn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voice mail. What did you do after I didn’t answer? Drop the phone and run away?

16. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

17. I keep some people’s phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

18. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

19. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

20. I wish Google Maps had an “Avoid Ghetto” routing option

21. Sometimes, I’ll watch a movie that I watched when I was younger and suddenly realize I had no idea what the heck was going on when I first saw it.

22. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

23. The only time I look forward to a red light is when I’m trying to finish a text.

24. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

25. How many times is it appropriate to say “What?” before you just nod and smile because you still didn’t hear or understand a word they said?

26. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

27. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

28. Sometimes I’ll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

29. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey – but I’ll bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

30. My check engine light has been on for three months now and nothing’s happened. I’m starting to think that my car is just an attention whore.

31. I don’t understand the purpose of the line, “I don’t need to drink to have fun.” Great, no one does. But why start a fire with flint and sticks when they’ve invented the lighter?

32. Sometimes I pretend not to remember details about people because having a good memory apparently equates to creepiness.

33. My GPS says “Estimated Arrival Time.” I see “Time to Beat.”

34. Whenever someone says “I’m not book smart, but I’m street smart”, all I hear is “I’m not real smart, but I’m imaginary smart”.

35. My keyboard needs a removable crumb tray like my toaster.

36. What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

37. I wish it were appropriate to say to a complete stranger, “Excuse me, would you like me to show you how to discipline your child?”

38. I never understood why the Lions and Cowboys always get to play on Thanksgiving. Shouldn’t the Patriots play the Redskins, and then steal their stadium afterwords?

39. Double-Stuffed Oreos should just be called Oreos, and regular Oreos should be called Diet Oreos.

Why yes, it’s another lame post of updates. Life has been bananas recently so I don’t have the energy for a full post. But don’t fret! Some fun things are on the horizon (baby shower invitation, drapery ideas, personal posts, etc). so get amped for those in the near future. Scott and I are preparing for a big trip and just had family in town for a bit, so things have been quite hectic. I’ll be back to a (almost) normal schedule soon, but until then, here are some yummy things for you enjoy.

You may have noticed a slight update to the blogitty. Hi, my name is Audrey and I’m incredibly indecisive. I needed to bring just a bit of color onto the page(a full blog update may be in my future) so this free background from Ollibird (via How About Orange) gave me the quick change I needed. Ahh, sweet sweet color.

Be still my heart. I recently discovered this awesome DIY chandelier (via Little Green Notebook) that was spotted over at Ready Made, a great site for all things DIY. I’m not sure where I would put this beauty, but I have. to. have. it. Don’t you just want to eat it up?

My husband follows a blog called A House by the Park, which follows the process of a web-designer building an uber modern home in Seattle. The home recently finished and it’s fan-freakin-tastic. Take a look if you wanna see some modern yumminess.

And, last but not least, mister Henry-pants. My family came to visit this past weekend and we got some good quality time with my just-turned-1 nephew. Isn’t he the cutest? I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend – enjoy some fireworks, hot dogs and glass bottled coke!

Love Day

Happy Valentine’s Day, blogosphere! I hope you guys are spending this day with the ones you love and relaxing like we are. Whether it’s with a simple, homemade card, to remind your loved ones you care…

… or a yummy heart themed breakfast for two.

We’re taking the time to enjoy a snowy morning here in Charlotte. Hope you’re enjoying a beautiful morning as well!

Scott and I typically forgo the V-day gifts, but we do like to give each other cards to make V-day a little more special than any other ordinary day. Gents, if you’re in the market for a card, check out this awesome one that my husband got for me. It may be the most fantastic card I’ve ever seen. EVER. Check it out on Etsy here.

Happy Love Day, everyone!

One Year Closer to 30

Yesterday was my birthday, and it was a somewhat momentous one. I have now entered the uncharted territory known as my “late twenties”. That’s right, only 4 more years until I turn 30, as my mother-in-law so lovingly pointed out. TWICE. I have to admit, I tend to get a little down when another birthday rolls around. The pessimist in me comes out and thinks about all the things I haven’t yet accomplished; the fact that motherhood is right around the corner and I don’t feel prepared; that I haven’t yet mastered the perfect key lime pie or how to keep my jeans from bunching out of my knee high boots. I get a bit nervous that another year has come and gone, yet I don’t feel like I’m in the place I thought I would be.

Then something wonderful happens every year, and I always fail to see it coming. I live in the moment. I put a pin in my downer thoughts and realize that my world is pretty fantastic the way it is. My wonderful husband orchestrated a birthday party last night that included good food, good friends, and plenty of wine and Cranium/Wii playing. I was surrounded by my best friends in Charlotte and I couldn’t help but feel incredibly lucky. Sure, my oldest friends and family weren’t present, but the life we’ve made and the friends we’ve cultivated in our few short years in Charlotte is enough to make me feel incredibly blessed. Blessed that I have great people in my life to share my stories with. Blessed that I have a thoughtful husband who loves me despite my birthday funks and temper tantrums (yes, I’m five years old). Blessed that I have my health, my home and all of the other things we tend to take for granted every day. Oh, and blessed that we have the skills to seat 12 people for a sit down dinner in our teeny tiny living room.

So maybe I haven’t mastered the things I thought I would have by 26. Maybe I still feel (and look) like I’m 16 and not old enough to have things like a mortgage and a 401k. But I think I can get on board with that. I plan to take my 26th year by the reigns and plow through my twenties with conviction and gaiety. I’ll take the time to appreciate the things I have and realize that I don’t have to solve all of the world’s problems just yet. I’ll take more pictures and spend more time with my loved ones. I’ll live in the now, try new things and deal with the fears of my future when the time comes. Oh, and I’ll share more pictures of Charlie. Because who couldn’t enjoy life with this little pooch around?

I’ve been kidnapped…

You may or may not have wondered where I’ve been recently. I’d love to be revealing some exciting news that has kept me out of blogland, but it’s nothing quite like that. I’ve literally been sucked into a world that I fought for months to stay away from. And despite my best efforts, I have to say I’m quite a fan. A very embarrassed, ashamed fan, to say the least. What is keeping me at bay you ask?

TWILIGHT. Ugh, you read that right. I finally gave way to the persistance of my coworkers, friends and family (I really had it coming from all sides) and agreed to read the Twilight books. This started about a week ago, and I’m just now coming to the end of the 4th book. Which is almost 800 pages. 700 of which I’ve read in 4 days. While working and trying to maintain a normal lifestyle. Can we say obsessed much?

Yep, I’m addicted. I am a self-proclaimed Twilight fan, and I’m here to air my dirty laundry so you don’t think I have dropped off the face of the planet. After this saga is over and I’m not longer spending my days thinking about vampires and werewolves and monster babies, I’ll be back. And better than ever. As always, since every post MUST have a picture, get a load of some pretty eye candy, courtesy of yours truly (no vampire pictures will be included. Promise).

Holiday Wrap Up

Did I forget to tell you that I was taking a blog hiatus? Oh yeah, sorry about that. I was traveling and not able to get to a computer (lucky for me, not for you) until today, the day that I am officially back on the grid. Back to work and my daily routine, and hopefully more blogging for your enjoyment, dear Internet. But until a smorgasbord of design related posts hits you in the jugular, here is a wrap up of our holiday travels, James Joyce style. Hope you all had a fantastic holiday and a happy new year!

Hit the road running before Christmas, with a stop in Jax to hang with the bro, whom I hardly see because he is a slave to all things residency. Ate Mexican food. Love mexican food. Woke up to yummy pancakes and headed down to my parents house, where my mom greeted us with an exorbitant amount of sweets and booze. Score. Decided to not celebrate Christmas Day on Christmas Day and instead saw Up in the Air. Realized how fantastically great George Clooney is. Had a mini reunion with high school buddies and loved every minute. Enjoyed more snackies and booze. Greeted the whole fam the day after Christmas and finally had a gift opening explosion, many of which will be shared at a later date. Ate Scott’s famous ribs. Went into a food coma. Hung with my nephew, the cutest kid in all of existence (sorry, other kids).

Visited with old friends that live on other sides of the country. Went to the park to see a giant oak tree. Watched the Hangover and Ricky Gervais Live. More booze and more yummy treats. Played ping pong. Had a family eye check by mi padre. Woke up at 5am to the fire alarm going off and a smoking heater. Thanked sweet baby jesus that my parents’ house wasn’t on fire. Packed up our stuff and headed to Jax for a camping trip and more time with my bro and my sister-in-law.

Ate chili and my weight in marshmallows. Reveled in my burgeoning belly. Slept under the stars which eventually turned into rain. Lots of rain. Packed up camp and headed back into town, only to be greeted by beautiful weather.

Walked in the mud. Lots of mud. Attempted fishing and some light beer drinking. Played around with my new lens and enjoyed some short lived sunshine.

Did some much needed laundry of muddy camping clothes. Donned a festive New Years headband. Blew up a lot of fireworks and played some competitive flip cup where the girls team ruled all. Marveled at my sister-in-law’s ability to create awesome sparkler art. Took way too many pictures.

Played in a neighborhood park at 2:00am. Enjoyed Beatles rockband a bit too much. Woke up to pouring rain and trekked it out to see Bobby Bowden’s final game. Cried. More than I should. Ate super good cheap sushi and enjoyed the company of new friends and old family. Packed up and turned a 6 hour trip into an 8 hour trip on our way back home. Hit the stores for some after Christmas sales and finally used some wedding gift cards (2 years later). Collapsed with content exhaustion.

How was your holiday break? Hopefully you feel refreshed and ready for 2010 – it’s going to be a good year, folks!

Ok, ok…. so I barely manage to blog once a week and then how do I repay you? I hit you up for votes so I can win something totally awesome. Yeah, that’s how I roll. I’m a terrible person and I love you all for humoring me on a regular basis.

So here’s the deal. A furniture supplier that I work with on a regular basis (whom also awarded me my womb chair) is having a contest to win the new Generation chair by Knoll. This chair may look like a regular office chair, but really, it’s a slice of pure ergonomic heaven. Honestly. I’ve never been more excited about a chair in my life, and that’s really saying something. They challenged designers in Charlotte to take a creative picture incorporating the chair – so what did I do? Exploited my pup, of course! Don’t judge me for my lack of creativity – I’m hoping that cuteness bodes well with designers in the area. :)

I’m dying to win this chair for our home office since my lovely husband has to sit in a very unfortunate chair every other day at present time. If you take the time to vote for me, I promise I’ll repay you in cookies and sunshine… and possibly more frequent blog posts.

Please send an email to vote059@cbi-nc.com or simply visit http://cbigenerationcontest.com/, go to Review Pictures and vote for Charlie, photo number 59. I’ve heard a rumor that you can only vote 5 times from each computer, but come on people, let’s beat the system! Thank you thank you and here’s to hopes of an un-sore back and happy behind for my husband in the near future!

Belated Thankfulness

Can I get a whoop whoop for a blog hiatus?! Yes, I have come to the realization that I am, in fact, a terrible blogger. As much as I love writing and chatting with you nice people, I also enjoy my time off of the grid. We spent the past week in Florida getting some quality family time. Sure, I had some down time and could have worked up a blog post, but I’m just not that kind of blogger. Luckily for me, people still actually take the time to read my little blog – which leads me to my thankful list. I may be a few days behind the rest of the blogosphere, but I’m equally thankful nonetheless. Especially for:

1. My readers. That’s right. Y-O-U. You may be part of a very small elite group, but I appreciate every one of you, despite your petite size. I dove into this blog world basically blind, but my readers have picked me up and carried me through with thoughtful comments and suggestions. Muchos gracias.

2. My husband. Yep, mushiness factor has been elevated. Although I’m not the most obvious person (ie. not lovey dovey) I appreciate my husband more than I appreciate modern conveniences, like fingernail clippers and indoor plumbing. Seriously. I’m so thankful to have found the person who is not only my best friend, but completes my life in ways I didn’t even think were possible.

3. My nephews (and niece). I have to admit, I was a bit curious how my family dynamic would change once little ones were brought into the picture. Luckily for all of us, it’s been flipping amazing. What’s better than having cute little boys running around, grabbing your hand to show you every little thing and giggling until you can’t handle the cuteness? And how about the awesome fact that if they poo/cry/flip out, you simply hand them off to the parents? I really don’t know what could be better. I’m sure that having children of your own would be a thousand times better, but at this point in our lives, nephews are just the ticket. I’m so thankful that all of them are in our lives and that they’re healthy and happy little babies.

4. Health. I can’t imagine how difficult my life would be, along with everything else that’s going on, if me or someone close to me was terribly ill. I thank my lucky stars every morning that I wake up and have the ability to breathe and go through life without the burden of a major illness weighing on my shoulders. There are some people close to me who aren’t quite as fortunate, but I’m thankful for the fact that they’re pushing through and staying as healthy as possible. Good health is such a blessing and I hope I never take advantage of it.

5. My In-Laws. You read that one right. I hear so many horror stories of terrible in-laws, and I’m so fortunate for not being able to contribute to those conversations. My in-laws are incredible, loving, funny people who have completely welcomed me into their lives over the past 5 years. I can’t express how fortunate I am to have not one, but two great families to love and share my life with (I promise I’m not being a kiss ass :P ).

6. My Familia. Not to be forgotten is my fantastically wonderful family unit. Living far away and only getting to spend special occasions with them really makes me cherish the times that we do get together. They’ve all supported me through every step of my life and I know that’s something not everyone can attest to. My family is unique, hilarious, brilliant and thoughtful – among 50 billion other things. I love them and am super thankful for every single one of them. And not to be forgotten in the family department, here is a picture of my other little nephew, Master Henry.

How was everyone’s Thanksgiving? Is there something you’re thankful for? Share the love, people!

The Craziness that is Me

I’m a scatterbrain.

It amazes me that I’m a designer sometimes – a profession that relies so heavily on little details – because, goodness, I’m a basket case sometimes. Take today, for instance. I came home during the day to let Charlie out for a few minutes between meetings. He was his usual, boisterous self, so I was preoccupied with trying to clean his muddy feet and forgot to lock the door. AND CLOSE IT. I actually left my house with a door cracked and not locked. Hey robbers, come on in, the house is open for business. I also ran some errands and picked up some vitamins that we were out of. Said vitamins were the ones that Scott and I decided to buy from Trader Joe’s since they were half the price. And where did I buy them from? Not Trader Joe’s. Naturally. Oh, and I went to the store to pick up dog food and forgot that I had bought anything when I got home and waltzed right in the door – sans dog food.

It’s a wonder my lovely husband can tolerate me. And that my head doesn’t fall off my shoulders. Maybe tomorrow my brain will work with me and not against me – for my abode’s sake.

ATL Anniversary

Yep, two personal posts in a row. Read ‘em and weep. In honor of our actual anniversary tomorrow, I thought I’d share the little weekend getaway Scott and I took this weekend to celebrate two years of wedded-ness. Now, you might be curious as to why we decided to take a vacation to somewhere I’ve lived before. Actually, it’s genius. We got to experience Atlanta as tourists, but actually knew where we were and the shortcuts to scoot around town quickly. We got to enjoy a city we were both familiar with, but in a different light. Needless to say, we had a blast.

The highlight of our trip was eating at Woodfire Grill and getting a chance to meet the chef, Top Chef’s own Kevin. I’ve been known to clap and embarrass myself profusely in the presence of a celebrity, but I have to say I held my own this time around, thankyouverymuch. Although, I didn’t manage to keep my eyes open for the picture. If you know me at all, this is no surprise to you. :)

The food at Woodfire Grille was one word: incredible. Scott and I aren’t usually ones for fancy fare, but we realized this trip that that’s just because we’ve never had really really good fancy food before. We ate things like an amuse-bouche, chilled confit shrimp salad and an egg aioli sauce – all terms that I just looked up to see what they were and how to actually spell them. We had multiple courses, spent multiple dollars, and loved every minute of it.

We also made an after dinner stop at a favorite ATL spot, Cafe Intermezzo. This place is the perfect spot for delicious desserts and after dinner drinks/coffees, thanks to their overzealous menu of choices. We sat on the patio and stuffed our already full faces, in the true Hernandez spirit. A little google action actually told me that this restaurant is home to the world’s largest Espresso/cappuccino machine – who knew?

I fulfilled a little secret fantasy of mine when we stayed at the Westin in downtown. This John Portman structure has always had me drooling, so I was pleased as punch to actually be a guest here. The exterior glass elevator and revolving restaurant were closed for repairs (boo) but the soaring lobby had me at hello. ::close your ears now if you don’t want to hear a bit of gushing:: I had a wonderful time with my hubby and I just want to tell him how much I love and appreciate him everyday. Happy anniversary, Scottie. :) Here’s to many more years (and fun trips) in the future!
