If you don’t already know, Real Simple is by far my favorite magazine out there in the world of home decor glossies. It’s not strictly a “home” magazine, but that’s probably why my love affair with it has continued to grow. It has everything! Organization, recipes, advice on life, household products – you name it, Real Simple has researched it and laid it out in a beautiful format for my enjoyment. It’s my happy place.
I thought I’d take each issue of this stunning publication and point out my top 3 favorite aspects. If you like what you see, go pick up the mag – it’s a little summary to wet your appetite! This issue, like all the others, did not disappoint, but here are my cliff notes/highlights for your viewing pleasure:
1. Decoration with Color: Green. Finally! A homage to my ultimate favorite color/obsession, greeeeen. If you know me at all, you know that my house has a bit too much green for the normal person. It’s such a great color that I have a hard time understanding why all of my commercial clients are opposed to using it. As Real Simple put it, green is “less expected than blue but just as versatile”. Well put, RS. In fact, two of their recommended green shades are almost identical to what I have in my kitchen and den. I think I’ll pat myself on the back for that one. This article is full of great green (as in color, not necessarily environmentally friendly) products and fun decorating tips.
2. Back to Basics Cleaning. This article embodies one of the things RS is so great at – coming up with things you never knew existed. This piece takes simple household products (ie. a lemon, borax, vinegar, etc.) and details all of the endless cleaning possibilities they are capable of. Did you know that ketchup can remove the tarnish from copper and brass cookware? Yeah, me neither. Their magazine is full of articles like this that make me go “huh” on a regular basis.
3. The Ultimate Bathroom Organizer. I feel like this article was written specifically for me. I have been struggling with how to keep my bathroom essentials looking tidy and organized, but lo and behold, RS swoops in to save the day. They show you how to display the things you use everyday (q-tips) while stashing the non-everyday items in a drawer (guest soaps). Really simply stuff, but sometimes its nice for someone to point out the obvious. I have also been debating about buying a small tray to openly display my makeup and RS again read my mind with the picture above of my exact thoughts. Bingo! I think RS and I are not only in love, but share the same brain waves.
If you’re a Real Simple reader and love this mag as much as I do, feel free to share your favorite parts of the issue. :) I won’t judge you if you didn’t like the over-the-top green decor in this month’s issue. Not everyone is into a green-tastic abode. :)
P.S. We’re acquiring a new version of Photoshop tonight, so that’s why my pictures aren’t quite as nice as usual. D’oh!
